PBL Project #1 Example

Meal Prep Plan

Below is a brief overview of all the essential content involved in this PBL project

Essential question:

Given the current popularity of meal-prepping, students are to research different diet lifestyles and plans and create 7-day meal plans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Students answer the driving question of how can one raise awareness of the benefits of meal prepping as well as healthy and well-balanced eating to members of their Spanish-speaking community.

Product:

A 7 Day Meal Prep Plan with an overview of the justification of chosen meals shared electronically that contains:

  1. A brief overview of the meal plan that they’ve chosen as well as purported health benefits

  2. A reasoning of the choice of diet to formulate the Meal Prep Plan

  3. At least 7 traditional Hispanic recipes from any region of their choice that they have chosen that have been adapted to their diet plan. (Minimum of one new meal a day.)

  4. An Instagram account that can be followed and viewed by the public containing each day of the plan along with pictures of their recipes.

A brief 30 second to a one-minute video promoting their Meal Prep Plan and Instagram Account in Spanish

Curriculum content:

  1. Students will research different diet techniques for a particular meal prep plan.

  2. Students will research Latin American food dishes and will adapt them to their diet.

  3. Students will research and read how Spanish-language recipes are typically written.

  4. Students will create an electronic Meal Prep Plan to be presented on an Instagram account with images or their own artwork, recipes, and instructions

  5. Students will learn and practice vocabulary related to food and cooking.

  6. Students will learn and practice passive se constructions.

  7. Students will learn and practice commands.

Skills learned:

  1. Work in groups and negotiate roles.

  2. Research.

  3. Traditional Latin American Food dishes.

  4. The importance of a well-balanced diet as well as its components.

  5. Develop the technical skills to produce an electronic Meal Prep Plan.

  6. Social Media Advertising

PBL Project #2 Example

Environmental PSA Video

Below is a brief overview of all the essential content involved in this PBL project

Essential question:

Are people in the world currently doing enough to provide our future generations with a healthy and clean planet? Students will be challenged to respond to this question by choosing upon one specific environmental problem and through research and a blog page, create a PSA to inform members of their Spanish-speaking community of this problem and how they can help.

Product:

An electronic blog which contains:

  1. A brief overview of the issue that they’ve chosen as well as evidence of its effects.

  2. The reasoning for the choice of this specific issue.

  3. What students can do to help as well as links to videos and resources to find more information.

Finally, students will create a 30 second to one-minute long PSA, in Spanish, about their issue, containing all the information from above, and the local news channel has agreed to air them during commercials in a time period TBD. This PSA should be informative and creative as it is intended to publicly inform people of the environmental issue faced and persuade them to help out.

Curriculum content:

  1. Students will research different environmental issues faced throughout the world.

  2. Students will find many sources of evidence, as well as pictures, videos, etc. on their environmental issues.

  3. Students will research and read about how we can personally improve upon this environmental issue.

  4. Students will create an online blog where they can post all of their information and resources. This blog will also be reported on the PSA and able to be viewed by the public.

  5. Students will learn and practice vocabulary related to education, the environment, climate, nature, etc.

  6. Students will work on persuasive and informative writing in the Spanish language.

  7. Students will practice their oral pronunciation by reading scripts for a PSA.

Skills learned:

  1. Work in groups and negotiate roles.

  2. Research.

  3. Become informed on the different dangers of the world.

  4. The importance of the environment and the effects of human intervention.

  5. Develop the technical skills to produce an informative and creative blog page.

  6. The ability to create a powerful and persuasive PSA.
